WATCH: Webcam captures warships playing ‘chicken’

A webcam on the coast of California has captured two US warships appearing to play ‘chicken’ in San Diego Bay.

Watch as the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, USS Momsen heads directly towards USS Harpers Ferry on what looks to be a collision course, before a radio exchange confirms a change of course to port for both vessels to avoid certain impact.

The angle of the San Diego Bay webcam capturing this worrying footage makes it difficult to see just how close these warships are, but as one viewer comments: “Unless this was an optical illusion, I expect both captains to hear from above.”

They should have crossed port to port if available water. Otherwise TWO SHORT blasts ! A radio exchange in these conditions often results in a RAC – radio assisted collision.
